    • With a broad selection of products, personalized service and an emphasis on education, TreeHead Culture isn’t just a dispensary. It’s a supportive community of cannabis connoisseurs.

Danielle and John Chebat created the business in 2023, opening their 1,200-square-foot Amherst store in February this year. The name “treehead” refers to a person who uses cannabis for therapeutic purposes.

“We’ve been enthusiasts for as long as I can remember,” Danielle said. “When cannabis finally became legal (under New York state law) and the opportunity came up for us to create an environment where all sorts of customers can feel welcome and comfortable shopping, we jumped on it.”

One of the Chebats’ main priorities is to dispel common cannabis misconceptions and challenge user stereotypes. As Danielle explains, treeheads don’t fit the mold of any particular person. “Our customers are across the board. You may be a mom of three. You may be a young man. You may be a veteran with PTSD,” she said.

“Our inventory is pretty diverse; I think we might be the biggest dispensary in western New York,” Danielle said. “When you first walk in, you see our featured products, then our selection of edibles, vapes and cartridges. Further in, we have our distillates and concentrates, and along the back wall is our huge flower bar.”

As TreeHead Culture continues to grow, the Chebats plan to incorporate a variety of educational courses into their mix of offerings.

“There’s so much to learn about how cannabis is grown, what cannabinoids are and how they affect you in different ways, and the whole process from farm to flame,” Danielle said. “It’s important to know where your products are coming from, how they’re made and what they do for you.”

Another thing that sets TreeHead Culture apart is free delivery service within a 15-mile radius. There’s also an order pickup option that uses an old drive-through at the former bank building the shop calls home.

“What’s better than not having to get out of your car, especially in Buffalo during the winters?” said Danielle with a laugh.

Big on family, the Chebats feel strongly about being active participants in the local community and host an ongoing schedule of TreeHead events and activities.

“We’re here for the people,” Danielle said. “We’ve got multiple generations who come in and shop with us. It’s really neat to see the community finding comfort in embracing this beautiful plant and knowing that we’re able to share it with them in a safe, happy, healthy way.”
